Periodontitis (gum disease)

Peridontitis is an inflammation of the tissue and supporting structures of teeth.  Basically, the bone, which anchors the teeth, is lost and that's why your teeth may start moving. Even more serious, periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease, stroke, preterm labor in pregnant women and low birth weight in babies.  It's one of the most dangerous dental diseases that goes unnoticed due to it not being painful in most cases.  However, periodontitis is completely preventable in the vast majority of cases, but can only be diagnosed and treated by a dental professional.  We encourage you to not wait till your teeth are moving or hurting to see if you need a scaling and root planing treatment (deep cleaning).
